Howdy, all.
My 83 Turbo is a great beater... I take it to work and back (approx. 10-12 mi. round trip). It doesn't have to do much more work than that. It has approx 115K on it. Symptoms are/were as follows:
When below 1/2 tank, car will sputter/stall/act like no fuel. I fill it at about 3/4 tank (every 4-5 days) and it's happy. I can live with this, as the other car wants a payment every month.
One night on the way home, the car just died. Just stopped working. I checked the usual suspects (timing, I looked for a fuse on the firewall before I remembered I had that other fuel injection type)...and called a tow truck. The result: dead fuel pump. Lots of $$ gone.
Flash forward about 1 1/2 months... I've been filling the tank before I get any symptoms, just truckin' along... and I have a battery problem. I get that worked out, and when I got home from work, I had the brilliant idea to let the car idle and charge for about 15 - 20 minutes. 17 minutes in, as I'm standing outside the car doing nothing, it decides that it doesn't want to be running anymore. The result: dead fuel pump, replaced under warranty.
Flash forward to yesterday. Stressful day at work...I decided to take a lunch break, and go down the street to get some food. On the way back to the office, just driving along..... the car decides it would like to stop working again. Luckily, I was able to drift into the local service shop/gas station. Result: I paid these guys $45 to tell me what's broken. They said they jumpered across something, and tested the system, and listened to it (I was there for that one)...and that the pump runs for a second, then quits. So, the car won't start.
I don't want to need to replace the fuel pump every month.... even if it *is* under warranty.
With the information provided.... is there anything else it could be, or am I truly a victim of a malevolent plot by a fuel pump manufacturer???
Sorry for the long post.... but I wanted to give all the possibly relevant information. Thanks!
