Strange electrical, fuel problem on my 740 700 1990

Hi...

I have a '90 740. Awhile back I had some problems where it would stall without sputtering at all. I replaced the fuel pump relay (behind the ash tray) and the radio suppression relay (under the hood), and it's been fine for months.

Last week, when it was low on gas (between a quarter and empty), and while we were going slow in traffic, it started sputtering, and stalled. It started up after a bit. We put gas in, and then it was fine.

A couple days later, when I started it, the whole electical system seemed to be off. It started fine and was running, but the radio, lights, power windows, etc. didn't work at all. I turned it off, re-started, and it was fine.

Yesterday, when it was low on gas again, and going slow in traffic, it sputtered and stalled. We put some gas in, and it was fine for a bit.

But a couple hours later (now a full tank), going slow in traffic, it sputtered and stalled again. Just before it stalled, the radio started making some strange noise, sort of cracking.

We pulled over. It wouldn't start easily, and when it did, it wouldn't rev -- struggled to get up to 2000 rpm. Finally, kept slowly bringing it up, and it was revving and getting gas normally, and then it was fine.

I originally thought just our gas gauge was wrong. Then I thought it was a fuel pump thing, and the electrical failure last week was just a coincidence. Now I'm wondering if they're related.

Any ideas?

thanks much...
