ram air intake on a stock 245? 200

I have a 1980 245, and noticed the upward facing air intake under the hood just behind the right headlight, coming out of the air filter box. I thought to myself, "wouldn't I get better performance at speed by finding a way to get that intake to face forward into the oncoming air, in order to force wind into the pipe, like a makeshift turbo charger? Have people done this to their bricks? How do you solve the problem of avoiding water in the intake if it rains or the road is wet? Would this forced air system improve gas mileage and power?
