Hey everyone,
I've been looking around for replacement doorseal/windlace for my '67 S and I've found that it's not easy to find plush doorseal that's close to what was originally used in the 1800s up to the end of '69. The OEM stuff is NLA and after '70, Volvo started using PVC stuff instead of the plush/felt lined stuff the earlier cars came with. If you look real hard you can find one or two suppliers who have some reproduction plush windlace that's close to the original but I had them send me some samples and I wasn't totally satisfied with it. The main issue I had with it is that the size of the tubing that forms the seal around the door opening is a fair bit smaller than the original doorseal.
After doing a lot of searching I finally came across a company in Europe that can supply me with some nice plush windlace that looks very close to the original and has a fair bit larger diameter seal tube than what these other suppliers were selling. I was talking to them about availability and they informed me that they were going out of the stuff I wanted and only had two 50 m rolls of it left. After that was gone there would be no more and the stuff that they will be getting in after that won't be as plush.
If enough people tell me thay're interested in getting some of this (black) windlace I am prepared to buy the last two rolls of it and will cut it into lengths and sell it to the people who signed up for it. There's enough windlace on each roll to do 7 cars so I will have 13 cars worth to sell after I take what I need for my car.
After all the costs for me to bring the stuff in from Europe (shipping & duty & taxes, etc,) I think the cost will come out to somewhere between $125 - $135 USD per car, not including shipping to you. Shipping costs to you shouldn't be too high and you would only be charged actual shipping costs (parcel post) from where I live in Canada. If there's only enough interest to warrant the purchase of one roll, then the costs will likely go up about 10% because it doesn't cost that much more to have 2 rolls shipped over from Europe 2 rolls than it does to have one roll.
Please let me know ASAP if you might be interested in getting in on this deal. I will only order the two rolls if I get a reasonable amount of interest. I can e-mail you some pics of the windlace sample I have side by side with a sample of the other stuff which you can get from some other suppliers at a slightly higher price.
