The girlfriend's got an '82 242T that just barely turned 100k. The AC hasn't worked in the 4 years that she's had the car. I have a feeling I'm going to be driving it a bit over the summer and realize I need to fix it. I have a couple of options regarding parts on hand. What do you think I should do?

I have a York rebuilt compressor somebody who has a lot of Volvo junk gave me. It came off a car with a B21. "Supposedly" it worked.

I have the compressor of a '93 940TI (B230FT). I got the entire engine for my race car and obviously don't need the compressor. It worked when the engine was pulled. The donor car had 75k mi and was hit in the left side and totalled.

I have to deal with a leaky power steering pump on the 242. (Leaking from the front seal, etc). Since I'm going to replace that with a rebuilt (or newer used), does it make more sense to get the new style PS pump and AC/PS bracket from a 91+ 240 and then stick in the 940 AC compressor? What else will I need? Receiver/dryer probably. Not real familiar with the 134 systems. Or should I just stick with the original style PS pump and put in the B21 rebuilt compressor and have the AC guys charge 'er up with freon? It will definitely need new hoses. But for all I know, the AC Compressor in the car may work, it may just need the system charged.

Should I have the hoses replaced by my favorite AC shop and have them charge the system, then find out the AC Compressor doesn't work? Should I replace the current AC Compressor with the Rebuilt and hope for the best? Or should I just get crazy and go for the new style everything and realize half-way through that I've forgotten some crucial part that does not warrant the time or money to upgrade everything. Just trollin' at this point...

In the meantime, my 245 with 290k has it's original AC system with no retrofit and it works juussst fine!
