lost my tach 1800 1973

Last wek I had an ignition problem that I traced to the points and the coil(with BB help of course). The only coil I had on hand was from a 740, It works fine, but since installing I have lost my tach. What did I do wrong? Is the coil to strong? Could I have dammaged the tach in the process? Any thoughts?
