Exterior temp indocator kaput. Anybody else seen this? Or fix it? S90-V90 1998

Lower left corner of the gauge cluster. Exterior air temp digital readout and freeze warning light all lit up. It reads -188 degrees (in other words, all of the LCD units are lit) and the freeze warning light is on. It's seventy degrees out. I want this to work but I really don't want pay a gazillion dollars for a whole new gauge cluster which I'm sure will be the dealer's knee-jerk response.
