I've owned my 84 245 for about five years now. The automatic tranny leaked when I bought it. I tighted the pan bolts the first day I bought it. The pan was pretty beat up and had a dent in the front. About a year later I replaced the entire pan. It still leaked but not as bad. About a quart every few months. It's leaking bad again from the pass. side. near the catalytic converter. I'm getting a smoke now and my driveway in now impervious to water where I park. This is now a safety issue. I'm taking it into a transmission shop tomorrow.
My greatest fear is they will want to rebuild the whole thing. I'm not doing that because that will cost more than the whle car is worth.
With only 216,000 on it and basically a fluid change every few months (due to the leak) there should not be anything wrong with it, should there?
It shifts good and hard and doesn't slip at all. And yes, the O/D does work.
Maybe a line leak, but it looks like the leak is higher up.
What shoud I beware of at the trans shop. Truthfully, I trust nobody the the repair business. This is probably something I do not want to repair myself either.
