Hi all,
A few weeks back I bought a third seat via ebay only to be shocked by the $95 shipping charge the seller requested. I offer the update so that you all might learn from this semi-mistake.
The seller is going through Mailboxes Etc (the UPS store) and they are insisting that, due to the amount of metal in the seat, a cardboard box will not suffice, and that the item needs to be crated. Seems excessive to me, but there's not much room for negotiation on this one.
Shipping via FedEx ground would have been about $12; via UPS between $15-20. Had Mailboxes just packed it in cardboard, they would have charged $27 for the service and materials.
Lesson one: be clear up front what "shipping" means with a seller on ebay. Just because everybody else gets it done for $15-30 doesn't mean this will apply to you. Caveat emptor, yup.
Lesson two: buy your own cardboard boxes and tape when you ship things.
I'll probably be back in a couple weeks with installation questions. Until then,
travel on rider
