Turbo: Auto or Manual? 200

Which would be preferable for a turbocharged 240, an AW-71 or M46? I've heard that the car can lose boost under acceleration when you shift, whereas an autobox puts a more or less constant load on the engine.

Which has gear ratios that are best suited to the B21FT's torque curve? I know that the autos are measurably slower (butt dyno and stopwatch) in normally aspirated 240's, but they also seem to do more with fewer rev's.

How durable is an AW-71? I've never had a failure with an M46. I've also not seen very many posts on the BB about serious problems with AW-7x boxes aside from leaking tailshaft bushings etc.

I understand that the overdrive in an automatic is part of the transmission, and that if resoldering the relay doesn't bring it back to life you're in for a tear down and rebuild. Is this true?

What's the fuel economy like for an autobox vs. manual turbo?

Thanks,

Rich.
