Oil leak in 83 240GL + brake failure light 200 1983

Hello,
My 83 Volvo 240GL has an oil leak which appears to be coming from behind the pulley or crank which has the timing marks above it (sorry I am unsure what the correct terminology is). I am not sure what this means or if this is in fact where the leak is originating from, as there was a considerable amount of leaked oil inside the engine compartment and under the chassis, including from apparently being sprayed around by the belts. I have cleaned it all off as best I could - including underneath, then set down some clean cardboard and run the engine for a short while, and so far the only drip appears to be from the above mentioned area.

I don't know if it is related or not, but on my last trip I also had the "brake failure" warning light come on. I still have brakes, though they travel a bit more now.

Can anyone offer some suggestions as to what I might be in for here?

Thank you,
cfoster
