cruise control-1984 245 with m46 manual trans

My cruise control doesn't work. I barely ever need it and I am not interested in getting it fixed if it will cost a lot. I'm just wondering if anyone has ever gotten theirs serviced and has any advice on how much it is to replace the hardware, or what the reasons for it failing commonly are. Thanks to all
