Electrical gurus:Does a 90 740 GL has a battery temp sensor controlling the voltage regulator? 700 1990

Found that ,with a ebayed obtained Volvo voltmeter gauge in dash/cluster which worked perfectly all winter, the volt gauge reading would be lower when the engine compartment is hot, like in a hot day while idling in traffic jam,is this normal.? is this to prevent the battery from frying in a hot car ?Thanks fior advice
Tom
Without the volt gauge add on,would not have noticed this!
