Not all 120 series cars have the same size trans tunnels.
Does anyone know what years/models had the wider tunnels?
As background, the cars with automatics have to have wider tunnels, but were these
wider tunnels only in cars that came with automatics, or did all 120 series cars
have the wider tunnels once the auto trans was offered? All of the 122s currently or recently at our shop have had narrow tunnels. Assuming there is a pattern for the sedans, do the wagons follow the same pattern?
In the 1800, the 69 and earlier cars all had narrow tunnels that we know of.
From 1970 on they all had wide tunnels. In the case of the 1800 the difference in
width is approx. 5 inches.
I am asking for info on this as we have customers making inquiries about trans
swaps and at present we have to ask them for the tunnel measurements of their cars before we can make a recommendation on whether the popular T5 5 speed can be used for the swap. It will not fit in the narrow tunnel cars without significant trans tunnel modifications.
Any information to clarify this will be appreciated.
