What's the difference between a 6304S & a 6304F engine? 900 1996

I own a 96' 960 with an over-heated bad engine(no compression). I'm in the market for a good used engine and want to make sure that I purchase the correct one. The engine code on the ID Plate shows a 96 which I beleive is a 6304S engine. In my research I read that this 6304S engine was used from 1992-1998? Then I've also read that my engine was only used in a 1995 & 1996 960. Then I've recently read that I'm actually in need of a 6304F engine.
Can someone please clarify for me what engine it is that I actually need and what year 960's I might find this engine in. Thank You For Your Help, Pat
