Questions about the R134 Conversion Kit for an 89 240 200

My 89 240 A/C system is mostly original. One year ago, I replaced the high pressure line (to get rid of old baffle), replaced drier, new O-rings, and repressurized with Freeze 12. System made it thru the summer of 03 o.k. Not great but passed a very hot SC summer. This year my system was nearly empty and I once again recharged with Freeze 12 and again it is barely acceptable. I really don't get decent cooling until I get up to freeway speeds. I have noticed oil on the both the in/out side of the drier so I know my connections/O-rings at that location are not good. I may have a leak somewhere else as well. I am considering buying one of the conversion kits from Ebay, FPGrotton, IPD, etc. The kits are approx $200 and come with: expansion valve, evaporator, high pressure line, O-rings, and drier. My questions:

- Is a new evaporator really needed?
- If I buy just the expansion valve, will it not fit on the old evaporator?
- My high pressure hose is only a yr old, do I really need a new one?

My thoughts are to drain the system, replace all the O-rings, drain the compressor, replace the expansion valve, recharge with new oil and R134. What am I missing here? Any thoughts or additional ideas? Is replacing the evaporator also a good idea? I really don't want to replace ALL the parts if I don't need to.

Thanks!
