1994 940T solenoid replacement 900

Hello,
My overdrive soleniod has finally gone. It was slowly going and has finally stoped working. It would take 5 to 10 minutes for it to engage in the mornings. I replaced the overdrive relay but problem still exists. Has anyone replaced theirs, that could give some insight? Is it ok to drive the car without the overdrive? I have read the FAQ pertaining to the solenoid but still do not feel confident in replacing the unit. Where is the best place to get the unit? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks Joe
