groaning steering pump 200 1993

wife.com had an indie shop replace the high pressure hose on the steering pump. guess it had run dry for a while.It works fine but now it has a low groaning sound especially when turning sharply at low speeds ( I groan turning sharply at high speeds).
Should I replace the pump? We have to drive 2800 miles back to Texas next month.
I just scored a pump from an 90 wreck ($13.95 at the PNP). It's in a little cardboard box waiting on the Brickboard wisdom whether to replace or not.
