I'm about to replace the heater core on my 80 244 with A/C. I received a number of helpful replies when I first encountered my leaky core. Now, it's time to start the job.
I plan to cut into the housing instead of removing the whole blower/heater/ac unit in one piece. I understand that I may be better off keeping the A/C unit there and connected at all times vs. taking it out, then reconnecting and recharging the A/C.
In any event. I've taken a close look at my parts car 240, and have removed much in order to take stock of how to approach the problem. My plan is to use a dremel tool to cut the passenger side of the unit to access and remove the core.
I see that the part closest to the heater controls is sort of circular, and it appears that clips are holding a side piece to the unit in place. This piece obviously directs blower air to the ducts. If I recall, that is the piece you can remove to access the blower motor. I'm wondering if I can unclip the clips and remove this side cover.
My question is would removing this piece help me get a better look at where exactly the heater core is?
I have the replacement heater core ready. I see how to remove the two hoses to the heater core. It's now just a matter of cutting the side correctly without making a huge mess of everything.
Thanks in advance for advice.
