Okay, first I thought I had a fuel problem... My '87 240 GL would turn over (strong), occasionally start, but never run for more than 3 to 5 seconds. Reading some posts on this board, I got the notion it may have been the AMM, and sure enough, I unplugged the AMM and it started up just fine... Stayed running too. Yesterday I repleaced the AMM and is started fine and did fine on the shakedown cruise around the neighborhood. I then pulled it into the garage for an oil change... All good. BTW - the flapper in the Airbox was flipped to take in hot air all the time. I rigged it to take in cool air... Sacramento in the summer - I should be fine. I figure that's what fried the AMM to start.
I then loaded the kids in the car for a short trip to a party. 1.5 miles later, it died... Cruising, it started to loose power after 1.2 miles - at 1.5 it came to a stop. And would not start again.... Turns over strong.. Just no start. fuel pump and injection fuses are fine and I am stumped. I never have had to deal with a fuel delivery problem before, but I think that's what I've got. I have spark, just no go. I tried jumping the 4 & 6 fuses, to see if the relay died. Jumping them, I hear the pump, but still no start.
Again, post doing the AMM, it ran just fine - started up quick, and idled perfectly. Like I said, cruised around the neighborhood fine. Post an oil change, started up and idled great. When it did die again, I did unplug the AMM to see if that was the problem again... No start with the AMM unplugged. I don't think the AMM is still the problem. I bought a new Bosch AMM. I think this is something else.
Things I have done recently - Plugs, wires, cap, rotor, air filter, fuel filter, oil & filter change, AMM, and tranny rear seals and bushings.
Tomorrow I think I'm gonna have it towed to the local independent volvo mechanic... Anyone have any idea what I might be looking at?
Thanks!
