Gas Gauge Floating ..Problem solved. Funny

Back on the 17th I was asking what might cause a Gas gauge to be stuck at half tank.
SHort story. Several weeks ago a newish Neighbor wonders up the driveway cause he saw me with the hood up. Tells me he has a Volvo too, likes the car , hates the Dealership. I told him that I do all my own wrenching and I'd be happy to play teacher if he was willing to do his own work.
He was game so we started off with the basic Tune Up since he neglected it for a long time because of the price of a dealer tuneup. Cap, Rotor, Wires and Plugs. They were not done in a very long time from the looks. I also did the Flame trap and cleaned the hoses and nipples. I told him to slide over and that I will explain what I'm doing during our next lesson; He was already baffled by the basic tuneup, why turn him off with confusion.
A few days after that he comes over asking what we touched because no his Gauge is hanging up. I knew it couldn't be related but now I'm a bit nervous 'cause I was in there with him with the Tune up.
Anyway. I told him the gauge electronics is not related to anything we touched. Bring a can of gas with you just to be sure you don't get caught on the road.I told him to top off the tank to see how much gas it takes.. He never did. He never got stuck. He tells me now that the gauge was never stuck...it just took way longer the usual to go down. " I don't know what you did but it starts quicker, runs better and doesn't burn gas, that's why I thought the gauge was broken." I think I adopted a friend.
