Got to looking under the hood of my just-bought '95 964 last night; checked the oil again; went to check AT fluid, and the only thing I see that even remotely resembles a fluid dipstick tube appears to be sticking up from the left side of the tranny, but it's VERY low, way out of my reach, back behind the oil dipstick tube, and extremely hard to get to. It's so low, I don't see how anyone could expect a person with regular-size limbs to ever reach through everything to pull it out. Yet, it appears to be on the end of a dipstick tube, which appears to curve around into the side of the tranny area.
Is, perhaps, part of my dipstick handle broken off, that's supposed to be protruding up higher ? Should it be this hard to reach ? There's also not apparently a real "handle" like the oil dipstick has on it; I see a colored piece of plastic, and a small piece of curved metal which might be to put your finger under and pull, so I'm wondering if perhaps it's just not broken.
Had lots of strange Volvo stuff, but this is a new one......
