do I need an exaust system? 200

Hi Bricksters! I have a 79 wagon. a few weeks ago I lost my muffler..(recovered it) Then a few days later, I come to find out I have a second muffler..I lost that too..(also recovered) Brick getting progressivly louder. 3 days ago I hear a scraping noise underneath..I look and see my exaust pipe dragging..pipe with the cat. I stop at a friendly neighborhood dry cleaner, and make a request to buy a single coat-hanger. I get one (no cost). Wired it nice and neat. Next day, I hear a diffrent kind of dragging noise..I stop and go to my passenger side and notice the other end of that exaust pipe..sticking out sideways from under my car (2 pipes, side by side), no longer attached to the engine, still attached with the trusty coat-hanger. I snipped the coat hanger and added the 5 ft pipe w/cat to the collection of exaust parts in my cargo area. Now my Brick sounds like a lawn tractor the size of a 747..I do like the fact that it sets off EVERY car alarm I pass. On the other hand..My neibors are bitching about how loud it is...haha..In theroy, if I were to consider replacing it, what should I look to pay..should I hit a pic'n'pull or be a big spender and buy new parts? should I have anything else done while its up on the rack? I really thank all of you for reading my post, and thank you for any advice. Happy Driving!
