**first off I'm new w/ volvos, so sorry if I sound stupid**
yesterday I went out to start my car and I turned the key over and the engine started to turn over but then died out.
heres where it gets crazy... I tried to turn it over again but nothing happened and I noticed a loud "whirring" noise comming from under the hood, so I got out and popped the hood and was having problems locating the "whirring" noise, my keys were not in the ignition so I didnt know what to do to get it to stop so I disconnected the neg cable from my battery and the noise stopped, but started again as soon as I reconnected the battery cable. My roomate (who is far far away from a mechanic) seems to think its my starter spinning and making that whirring noise and thats why my car wont start cuz my starter is stuck in and "on" position or something... I dunno

anyone of you smart guys out there have any input for me?
