I have a '90 745T and just replaced the front struts including strut tubes and spindles. The cartridge retention nut was rusted solid, so I bought new strut tubes, but that's another story.
What is the torque on the wheel bearing nut? The bearings are apparently two angular contact ball bearings, not the typical tapered roller bearings found on most automotive non-drive spindle applications. I hear the Volvo front wheel bearings of this vintage are rarely a source of trouble and are generally not servicable.
I retorqued the self locking nuts to approximately the breakaway torque at disassembly. This was around 100 ft-lb. I've heard 44 ft-lbs for some Volvo front wheel bearings, but in my case the drag torque on the self locking 1 7/16 (36 mm) nut is about 50 ft-lb so that can't be.
Any suggestions?
