Dear readers,
I have what I believe to be a short circut that blows fuse #12 on my 1995 940 wagon. The problem started when the car dropped out of OD on the highway. Replacement of the fuse resulted in another blown fuse as soon as the car was started. I checked FAQ and looked at the OD solenoid wiring, which had some electical tape over it near the brackets that hold it to the trans. To test, I disconnected the solenoid wire below the shifter and blew another fuse when the car was turned on. Jumpering from the battery to the solenoid makes the solenoid click open, so I ssume it is not the culprit.
The non supply terminal going to this fuse has continuity to ground, which I assume to be a short some where in the wiring or switches. So I removed the OD relay that has caused others so much trouble, still have continuity to ground.
1. I was wondering if anyone has run into a similar problem, and knows how to isolate the other circuts connected to this fuse (cruise control, back up light, bulb out indicator).
2. I wasn't able to remove the OD switch to check for a short, has anyone done it?
3. Is it possible/ok for the trans to supply a constant 12v to the solenoid, through a separate fuse, and bypass the issue with the circut? All I really need is the OD.
