Hi, all. I had been worried about my car ('84 240DL, 193K miles) passing inspection. It had been suffering a miserably rough idle until last month when I replaced the AMM (I had suspected everything else, but it finally died and revealed that it was the problem after all, as it wouldn't even idle after that unless I unplugged it) -- after putting in a new one, it idled beautifully. And I didn't even adjust the AMM -- just plugged it in, just as it came from the factory. But I was facing NJ's state inspection, including the dreaded "road speed" emissions test on a dynomometer.
Well, for those of you who worry that your car can't do it, look at these numbers from my report:
NOx reading=33, limit=1227
HC reading=27, limit=162
CO reading=0.02, limit=0.91
I didn't do anything special to prepare (e.g., no tune-up, no adjustments, nothing!), and it just passed this easily, despite its mileage and age. So don't give up hope on your own cars -- these volvo engines are incredible.
Wish all of you the same luck I had today!
