Here are the facts.
1)Last week wife drives up - 940 makes an old whirring noise when shut off
2)Discover that the bolt that holds the clutch is gone - replace that - but still doing the same
3)Took it this am to two shops. They both conclude that I (probably) need a compressor due to the fact that the whirring - is the compressor continuing to spin until it stops (you can see this with shut down) & that you can turn the compressor by hand way too easily - not much resistence when you turn it.
4) The second shop was supprised that it was cooling at all - said something about a squish/squash plate - and one or more of the pistons failed, and not pumping the freon.
When you are driving it with the air on - there is a odd low pitched rise and fall- somewhat like a moan from the right engine bay (pass side). First shop mentioned an expansion valve possibility, but just as quickly somewhat dismissed that. Actually, he said that he had never heard anything like it.
Thanks for any and all help.
