Air Conditioning Bypass 200

Here is an idea for those of you who had dead airconditioning units. If you remove the condensor you will get better flow over your radiator and increase cooling capabilities. Also, if you take out the AC compressor the engine won't be don't that extra work all of the time and you will get a slight increase in gas milage and power. Really, pulling a part out of the car that didn't work and didn't need to be there made me feel good.

The bypass kit that IPD sells is pretty expensive and only works on pre 1984 240s. After looking and thinking about it for a while I finally went down to the hardware store and bought $3 worth of nuts and bolts and stopped by the local auto parts store and bought the same belt size that IPD sells in their kit.

I got everything hooked up, I even replaced the bushings with IPD's poly bushings, and the belt was the wrong size. After a couple more trips to the auto parts place I ended up with a belt that works. I think when it comes time to replace it I will go about 10mm smaller, maybe 20mm, but this size works for now. It is a 13mm by 1120mm belt, Gatorback #17442, in case you want to try this modification out.

I have been running it like this for a couple of months now with no problems so I think I can confidently recommend this mod. I have tried to attach a picture that will give you an idea of what I did. All I did was replace the bolt that the power steering pump pivots on with a bolt that was about 1inch longer and was completely threaded. Then I lined up the PS pully with the crankshaft pully using nuts. And for added strength I filled up the space from the front bushing to the front attachment point with an extra nut and a couple wachers.

I hope you guys like it, or at least tell me I nuts if you don't.
