I inherited a 1990 740 with 214,000 miles. Members of this board have been ever so helpful in sorting it out.
Ever since I got the car, about every third time I start it, the starter seems to "grind" AFTER the engine starts, like it's not disengaging fully.
I was told by someone who doesn't know much about cars that the solenoid might be sticking. Could this be it? Can cleaning the solenoid help? Can it be replaced separately, or must the whole starter be replaced?
