AC conversion to R134 question 200 1987

I have completed the conversion using the official Volvo kit which included new evaporator, expansion valve, HP hose, drier. Removed compressor and drained old oil and installed new ester oil. Have vacumed and charged with good results do far, today will try to fine tune the volume of R134 for best results while watching for 2.2 to 2.5 x ambiant temp for high side psi, understand the vacume side should be about 30 to 35 psi @ 1500 or so rpm.

Question: Attached to the new expansion valve is a fine tube terminating in a curly section about 1 inch long. Where does it go? On the old expansion valve it just seemed to be stuffed inside the evap cover. What is it's purpose?

Will post final pressures, vent temp and ambiant for the curious.
