As some of you might know by my recent postings, I will be taking a road trip with my '72 145E. I am driving from Minneapolis to Penland, North CArolina and I will be towing "Gabrielle", my 1966 "La Tortue" Corsica caravan from Belgium.
I am really not looking forward to this 1500 mile drive, and I have a nagging feeling of doubt I did not have when I drove the 122 wagon out to Maine a couple of years ago. Driving is the most cost effective way to get there, and taking the trailer gives me a place to stay, so there it is. I have taken weekend trips around Minnesota doing my other business, and have had no problem save the 145 being occasionally hard to keep at idle when I first start it. Once it warms up, it is fine. Got to check the cold start injector.
I am writing this to collect information re: places for repairs of vintage Volvos with D-jet injection along the way; preferably indie mechanics.
Here is the approxiamate route I will be taking:
Down the Mississippi on the western edge of Wisconsin, cutting over at La Crosse to Madison. Down near Rockford, avoiding Chicago, parralling I 39 about 10 miles to the east, cutting over to Kankakee. Cross over into Indiana at kentland. Go to West Lafayette, then south of 231 to Bloomington, then over to 135 through Salem, and down to Louisville kentucky, skirting the city then 150 southeast through the state through Mt. VErnon, London, crossing into Tennessee at Harrogate. Continue southeast on 25E to White Pine and Newport, cutting into North Carolina at Hop Springs. On to Spruce Pine North Carolina, then Penland.
I am going to make the best of this drive that I can and take photos along the way.
I would very much appreciate the names and telephone numbers of any reputable Volvo shops along the way.
Wish me luck. A few prayers wouldn't hurt, either.
thanks

Sensual Ascetic. Three Volvos. Average age 37 years. No damn cupholders. Good wine.
