Coolant temp sensor / ground 700

Simple one: I hit a 5 gallon bucket yesterday, right in front of Driver's side wheels. It broke off my fog light, no biggie, and...now my temp gauge only works intermittently. I'm assuming a loose wire. From the bucket.

Can anyone tell me whereabouts to start looking? Where is the sensor? Is it just a variable resistance to ground kind of thing?

Any input appreciated.
