Folks,
My trustworthy 1986 244 with 230000 miles occasionally won't start. It performs smmothly 30 miles on the way to work every week day.
It always starts first thing in the morning when I want to go to work, usually on the second try.
It always starts at the end of work when I want to go home, usually on the second try.
Occasionally it won't start after I stop at a store for 10 minutes. It cranks over without any hint of starting. I may try 8 or 10 times. I let it sit for 5 min to 30 min and then it starts up. One time I was trying to start it and I was checking for spark. I pulled the high voltage wire off of the # 4 plug (leaving the # 4 plug in the head, took a spare plug and inseted it into the #4 plug wire and grounded the plug on the chassis. I saw a weak spark and the engine started and ran on 3 cylinders.
Could the temp sensor that inputs to the FI computer be faulty?
I bypassed the fuel pump relay so I know that the fuel pump is running when the NO START aberration occurs.
Thanks for your kind help.
