B21F Intake Manifold/Valve Cover Cleaning 200 1980

I'm sick of how dirty the engine in the GT is... the valve cover and the intake manifold have what appears to be a varnish typs substance on them. Not sure if it is the original coating but it makes it look like arse.

What is the recommended method to clean these components? I am planning on letting it sit in a parts washer over night to hopefully loosen up and/or dissolve the "coating"/varnish substance and also the carbon buildup in the intake runners. Are these parts sand blast-able? Or is a bead type medium preferred?

Thanks,
Bean
