Gentlemen,
Having a slight issue w/ my electric (80 lb) oil pressure gauge. Everything was going perfectly, made a super neat harness, wired perfectly, very easy upgrade; all & all, a smooth installation until... it came time to screw in the sender.
The old/stock unit came out easily and the 14mm x 1.5 VDO sender seems to take its place readily. However, I am now getting a super duper Exxon Valdiz style oil leak, when the motor was previously dry & clean.
Many guys on the Board are using egauges.com's smallest (and cheapest) thread-size sender and adapters to do this modification. I went the extra few dollars ($87 plus shipping) for the 14mm w/ dual terminals (gague & floating ground for idiot light) so that I wouldn't need an adapter. Right now, I think it doesn't fit flush to the block as a ridge around the sender is connecting w/ a ridge on the block. Together they seem to be prohibiting a seat. What should I do?
Can I grind the sender edge down? Or, should I work that area on the block? I already scratched and crush marked the new sender with pliers trying for extra grip in order to make it flush. No leak from the sender itself, after the abuse I hope the unit is alright from the trashing I gave it... also doubt egauges.com will take it back because she is pretty beat up.
The ridge on the sender should be able to be ground down just enough to let the it slip by this tough spot.
I have installed gauges on other cars before so I am no rookie, but I posted for the correct sender size and was told 14mm... JUST SO everybody KNOWS, the 14mm VDO 80lb sender w/ dual terminals does not perfectly fit a b230... why I dont know?
Also, I had a hell of a time trying to find 14mm crush washers to reinstall the oem sender... another f*&king story entirely... while the PepShmoys noodle brained "parts guy" searches a p/c for what I keep telling isn't on disk!... quote of the day: "crush washer, what is that?"
The oil pressure gauge worked fine for the time I had it hooked up... and I was stoked... only to be shot sown... some advice would be greatly appreciated.
Peace & Love, Jon
