I just fixed a leak from the valve cover and distributor only to discover after cleaning the engine that I have another leak from the area of the oil trap / oil breather box.
It was only last year I spent half a day going through the Crankcase Ventilation System (I should mention this was only possible with valuable help from the brickboard). It was to me the 2nd most difficult job and my car having a K-jet didn't help at all
I don't know what I did wrong but here's what I did last year
1. replaced hoses, flame trap and housing, dipstick o'ring
2. cleaned fitting in manifold
3. remove and cleaned oil trap. hardly any crud in it. It was not cracked.
4. I was extra careful not to disturb the hose goes back down to the sump. the hose felt kinda flaky but I didn't dare try replacing it
5. clean up the exposed surface on the block where the breather box sits
6. reinstalled using new o-ring. There was NO o'ring present initially. o'ring was a snug fit around the big opening
7. now this part got me stumped. The o'ring was too thick and I can't tighten the oil trap to get it flushed with the block. I left it as it was
Thinking back was the o'ring supposed to be in the groove in the bottom of the oil trap? Should've I replaced the hose going into the sump? Could a dislodged hose cause a leak?
Help much appreciated. Thanks in advance to everyone.
