ZF Rack
I would like to know what kind of clamp is holding the boot on the steering rack so that I can buy the appropriate pliers. Volvo dealer one said there is a special tool. Volvo part guy # 2 says it is just a pinch clamp, and nothing special (pinch clamp - never heard of it before, might as well be special). Several people asked me to bring it to them to see what it was, but if I could take it off to show it around, I would already have it off and wouldn't need to know, as I already would know, that is the catch 22 of it.
I need to get it off and put it back on. It is about 1/4" to 3/8" wide and has these square holes in the band. There is only one ear sticking up on it and I didn't see any mfr's name on it, but I wasn't looking for any name on it. It may be SS as I didn't see any corrosion on it.
There isn't even any listing in any tool catalogs for rack and pinion ZF steering boots. All I found was CV boot clamp pliers:
Earless type clamps -- Lisle # 30500
Ear type clamps -- Lisle #30800
Band-it & Band-it Jr clamps -- Lisle and KD Tools
Oetiker clamps - KD #3374
Anyone know?
thanks
