gritty!? starter replacement 200 1990

tomorrow i plan on replacing the starter in my wagon. i goy a nice looking one from the salvage yard. it's been tested and has a 1 yr warranty - sounds good.

i was just inspecting the new starter and noticed that the oil/grease in the opening at the eliptical tip is a bit gritty. is this ok?
