I have a 1988 240DL that I purchased last summer. My wife tried her all but was only able to wound it before she switched back to her Honda Accord. I bought the 240 so she could drive it while I was working on her Accord. Hours after I was done with the Accord she killed it! We were given a Kia by her parents and my Volvo has sat idle since March. It had brake and fuel delivery problems when we stopped using it. Now that I am out of work I have decided to do some work on the Volvo. First I had to change the brake pads. I found the rear pads in good shape so I left them in place. The front were replaced this week. This seems to be such a simple job until all the weird variables of stuck pistons and such get involved. Money is really tight this summer (did I mention I am a teacher) so I chose not to turn the rotors. The front rotors did not look that great but I just cannot spare the money as my first summer check does not arrive until next week. I assume this means the cheapo pads I installed will not be lasting for too long. The brake job does feel and work very well and I am very proud of myself in that regards...hey come on I am a lard butt teacher with no mechanical skills at all! I am hoping I can get this to work until the winter as the summers here in Southern Florida are just too hot to be outside working. The heat and humidity almost killed me! I took a drive up to Broward County, Florida to test the brakes and they seem to be working out well. I have driven on them for a few days with no problem. I did have a problem with one lug nut when I was putting the wheels back on. It went on hard and I fear I stripped it as it went on. Can I just back it out and try to install a new lug nut; hoping to re-chase the threads? Or will I have to get a new stud? More importantly I have had a strange clicking sound coming from the rear end that appears to be related to some fuel issue. If I leave the car for a few days fuel appears to run out of the line and has to be repumped in. This sounds to me like a fuel pressure check valve or the pre-pump. I really do not want to get involved in getting into the gas tank so I wonder if someone here sould give me some direction with this. As I drive down the road I do hear some clicking from the rear as I hit the gas. The car seems to run fine but I am fearful of it leaving me on the side of the road. Advice on all the above appreciated!
