I have an '87 740 turbo - my problem is that I have no spark - the engine cranks but doesn't start. This all happened after I was driving about 300ft (nothing suspicious) and suddenly the engine stopped working.
I checked the coil (it get's 12V and the resistance is as described in FAQ), tried out a new coil, the Hall sensor seems to work (tachometer needle jumps slightly, when I turn the ignition), I put new spark plug wires in. I also connected a spark plug directly from the coil to a plug - no spark.
At the same time I don't hear the fuel pump coming on when turning the key. I checked the relay (works), shorted it out and I could hear the pump working (got instructions from FAQ) - so, do I miss here something in my equation, or is there something I’m not aware off?? Are these two problems somehow related or am I just unlucky?? Is there some kind of engine management chip that doesn't wanna work anymore? At the moment I have no idea what I could check next.
Thx.
