One source for 240 cars/parts that may be overlooked is your local charity (where I am, it'd be Goodwill, Salvation Army). These places take in cars donated by individuals for tax writeoffs. The really good ones tend to go to programs that give cars to individuals to make it to work. The others are sometimes sold at local public auctions, or sold by the charities themselves.
It's possible to pick up a whole car for parts at an excellent price, and the money goes towards a charity...everybody wins :o)
Recently found an '81 245 with a bad motor..sounded like a great candidate for swap, until I saw two outward dents (one on each side of the car) on the rear quarters. It's my guess the PO was either hit at low speed, or backed into something. The car had a trailer hitch...I'm thinking the car took the impact directly on the hitch, bypassing the energy absorbing bumper shocks, and started the crumple zone effect. Other than that, the car was in excellent shape for a 23 year old car. They also had a nice looking 89 244, but car had low compression on one cylinder. Since they wouldn't sell with title (lacking current inspection), I didn't pay as much attention to that one, nor to the 3-5 740 series out there as well.
