Loss of power... Premium unleaded? 200 1979

I have a 1979 244GL (B21F) which i have been running on LRP and recently it has lost a lot of power (at first it was just a bit jerky with the power while the engine warmed up <50km/h but was fine after taht). On taking it to a volvo specialist, the guy sed to run the car on premium unleaded for teh power problem. Can this be done?

ANyone know y my car has lost a lot of power? I know im a bit vague but could it have somefing to do with the exhaust as one of teh pipes blew and was then replaced... which is roughly the time the loss of power was permanent

If anyone could help that would be great,
