brand new to brickboard, but not new to my volvo 200

hello, I'm sam from jersey. I just inherited my trusty 1987 volvo 240dl wagon. It's in great shape and the more i drive it, the more i love it. I went to a local volvo repair shop to get some clips for the hatch interior panels when i saw a volvo 240 wagon(unknown year...but looks the same as mine) with a MANUAL TRANSMISSION. It has always been my dream to have a manual tranny. The cost is 570...which i think is excelent. Frank(the owner) said he's driven the tranny and that it works great. But the problem is he wont do the work cuz he is swamped with alot of work. my first questions is
1. Is this swap worth it? If i worked with my dad..would i be able to do with with a couple of jackstands, a haynes manual, and alot of time?
2. is the price right for this transmission? the gaugecluster was ripped out when i saw the car so i'm not sure how many miles it has.
3. does anyone have any online info on auto to manual swaps for 240's? i would appreciate any links...just want to know what i'm getting myself into.
4. if there's anyone in the northern new jersey area who would be willing to help my dad and i, please contact me.
