I'm already fearing the harness; it is original and missing insulation in several places. We were many miles from home, and all I got was a loud click when trying to start the beast. In the pitch dark, I followed and wiggled wires between battery and starter to no results. BUT: half an hour later, she started right up, ran perfectly and got me home.
Along the way, however, the alternator and oil pressure lights were flickering for about five miles. I've read about false readings to the instrument panel as a common symptom of harness trouble; is this what I have?
If so, is it possible to replace the wiring without paying the stratospheric price of a pre-fabricated harness? I've got the diagrams in the Bentley manual, and would like to re-route the wires along the fender instead of across the lower front of the engine.
Please, please respond with any suggestions or advice. I'd really appreciate it,
Brendan
