A/C Question (imagine that) 900

First of all, I am new to DIY. But with Brickboard behind me I have replaced the fuel pump and sending unit and have repaired the A/C control unit circuit board in my 940 and RR my ABS control unit in my 850 (with Victor Rocha's assistance).

I especially feel challenged by the A/C, so would appreciate your advice. (Last summer after several posts and reading up I had about decided to DIY the compressor replacement and R134 retrofit - but fall came and I postponed it).

I am not afraid to do this, but want to make dead sure I am doing the right thing so as not waste time or money. Anyway, last summer, the blower fuse started blowing every time the A/C was turned on. The higher the blower speed, the quicker it'd blow. Before it blew, the A/C did blow cold air. I became convinced through discusions here and with a local mechanic that the compressor was bad.

This summer, the fuse doesn't blow but neither is the A/C blowing cold. What do you make of all this? Was the original diagnosis correct? How could I trouble shoot it at this point to be more sure? Thanks for your feedback.
