Car won't go over 75!!! 700

Hey ya'll. I just bought a 1990 740GLE and I can't get the thing to go over 75 miles an hour. It has a 16 valve motor in it. I carried it to my mechanic and he did a tune up on the car including the timing belt, but we cannot figure out why it will not go any faster than it does. The engine runs fine, but has a slight miss. Any suggestions on what to check?
