In tank fuel pump 700 1986

Hi,

I got a 86 760turbo, been having start problems. (by the way, been checking everything --check all my previous posts!)

Pulled out the intank fuel pump fuse and there was no change in driveability or idle. So I thought maybe my intank fuel pump is dead.

Pulled the intank out (whew!) and the strainer was completely black and nasty. Tested the pump for the fun of it and it WORKS.

Also tested the new intank pump and there was a noticeable pitch and 'feel' of the motor. I think the old pump is definetly weaker.

But...
Could it be possible that the strainer was clogged and preventing adequate fuel flow? Or could the pump just be 'dying'?

Thanks,
Chris
