Fellow brickboarders,
I had the good fortune to acquire a '68 wagon parts car, into which the previous owner had installed an M41. Since he had already had had his driveshaft shortened, I figured that I could use the same parts in installing the transmission and OD into my '66 122.
However... I found that the center bearing mounts are different. The one that's on my car is something that Chilton's refers to as a "Type 2," with two big rubber grommets that a pair of steel pins slide through, whereas the bearing from the parts car is a "Type 3," with a great big rubber housing. It's obvious that the one won't fit with the other, but is the threaded end of the front driveshaft the same in both? In other words, will I be able to disassemble my "Type 3" preshortened driveshaft and make it work with the earlier bearing? Or should I have the one I removed from the car shortened?
Thanks,
Dave
