Hi guys,
I am trying to decide how to go about installing some sort of stereo in my 142. This weekend, I installed half a roll of “Peel N Seal” that I bought at Lowe’s. (Home Depot does not carry it) $12 or so per roll. Asphalt based ‘Flashing’ stuff.
I am AMAZED at the sound reduction results. I put a layer on the inside of the car behind the glove compartment and as high up on the firewall as I could go. I covered the tranny tunnel also.
I plan to use the other half of the roll on the trunk area and perhaps under the rear seat.
Anyway, now I am ready for the stereo. However, I have only one center speaker on the rear deck. A friend gave me a pair of new, high quality, 6 x 9 speakers.
Should I cut new holes for these? I was planning to re-carpet the rear deck anyway, so I suppose that I could rip the old carpet, take out the center speaker, and then cover the hole with a thin plate of aluminum. Then I can cut 2 new holes on the left and right side.
Has anyone done this or recommend against it? Do you guys think that the speaker should bolt from the bottom or drop in from inside the car?
Thanks,
Jeremy
